XP is 32 bits, SP 3.

Regarding the captcha, since we are talking about design issues: yes I could register (will do that) but, again, the subtle colors difference does not render the task harder for computers, while it does for humans, so there is no reason to keep such a system.

Additional info:

XP is 32 bits, SP 3.
That behavior doesn't happen under Linux.

Bingo!

Not active, you say? I think you need to disable Firebug and restart Firefox. Or you may even need to uninstall Firebug. Give that a try. Tools > Add-ons

For what it's worth, I had this same problem and disabling (completely) Firebug did in fact fix the problem.
