So Extensions are automatically viruses in their eyes I guess.

No, but they're arguably less secure than Firefox. And plugins are DEFINITELY less secure than Firefox--not that you would avoid them with IE. That's the only plausible reason I can think of. But basically they're luddites, and they don't like users to control their own computers.
