Re: Firefox doesn't ask me if i want to save passwords
Very strange. I put in a fake id and PW and got this drop down
It of course would not let me log in.
With a new temp profile you should have no extensions and the default appearance. For the temp profile do you have Tools > Options > Security with Remember Passwords for sites checked?
.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

Re: Firefox doesn't ask me if i want to save passwords
Yes RobertJ, I get that only when it is in safe-mode. How exactly do u create one of those temp profiles? This is what i did. Opened Run, typed firefox.exe -p and a window popped up, clicked on create profile, then next, typed a random name for the profile and then I clicked finish. If that's how you do it, it doesn't help.
dickvl, private browsing is off.
Is it java that makes those things pop up? or what is it? I tried installing a toolbar just to see if the allow thingie would pop up, but it didn't. So I'm assuming that there has to be something blocking those. What could it be?

Re: Firefox doesn't ask me if i want to save passwords
I think the problem was fixed. I have removed everything there was in the extensions folder, and I think everything is fixed, because it did ask me if i wanted to save the password. So weird....
Never-mind. It was in safe-mode and I didn't even realize it. ughh... I was so happy for a second..
Also I just realized that if I'm trying to bookmark a page and you know the little thing pops up. If I'm trying move my mouse towards it and click done, it disappears.

Re: Firefox doesn't ask me if i want to save passwords
As far as I can see ... the two items below that safe-mode disables (beyond extensions and other things...) are what's left over that might cause these issues... though it is strange if they did.... and I don't think Hardware accel... would cause your problems.
* The JIT Javascript compiler is disabled.
* Hardware acceleration is disabled.
You stated in your first post...
I'll assume that you were stating Version 7 of Firefox and not a Win7 update... correct?
In that new test profile... you made zero changes to it before you tested the PW issue... correct? If you were to restart Firefox with that test profile "and" started it in safe-mode... what happens?
The reason I ask is that even in a new profile with not changes to it Firefox will add "system-based" extensions to it and/so, if you do test again with that test-profile and safe-mode works... you might want to post here the extensions that you find in the Add-ons page.
It sure sounds like a Win7 thing, a security thing or ?? causing then blockage... not Firefox. Is Norton the only AV product you use... and what Firewall do you use?
Are all your products in your computer up to date? I use this free app. to help keep me that way...

Re: Firefox doesn't ask me if i want to save passwords
And I'm going to do a PS here in an additional section.
I used to use Norton... for many, many years... and gave it up based on a couple of recommendations from this boards Mods... and that was to switch to Avast. I've never looked back as Avast uses much less system resources, has never caused any issues (Norton was even hanging up my system when I wanted to close down... and those hangs related to Norton locking up even Microsoft products), is much more simple to use etc.. etc..
Anyway, just a thought...

Sounds like a McAfee AV and JIT conflict to me. Disable Jit via about:config

Fine with me...but this problem will continue until the OP disables JIT.

My that is a long list. I would suggest getting rid of duplicate and old versions of plug-ins. I don't know how on Win, with Mac you simply delete.

Re: Firefox doesn't ask me if i want to save passwords
My understanding is that safe-mode doesn't affect Plugins... that's why I was staying away from them...(but, who knows today/tomorrow/the future) but, there are some "extensions" that get auto created even in a new basic profile... that's why I asked the question about them...
That is an interesting list of Plugins though.
The reason I ask is that even in a new profile with not changes to it Firefox will add "system-based" extensions to it and/so, if you do test again with that test-profile and safe-mode works... you might want to post here the extensions that you find in the Add-ons page.

So i typed about:config in the address bar above. Then i typed JIT in the filter bar, and double clicked on javascript.options.jitprofiling.chrome and javascript.options.jitprofiling.content.
They are bold now and the value for both of them is "false"
