Unresponsive script:Script: chrome://browser/content/places/

Post by Clueless in Seattle »

I recently upgraded from Firefox 3 to FF 12.

Now when I open Firefox I get an Unresponsive Script error:

Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js:879

And, I just noticed that my Bookmarks Toolbar vanished from the top of the Window after the last shutdown and reboot.

Also, Firefox 12 becomes so sluggish that it locks up my entire system and I have to manually shut down and reboot.

I'm running it under Windows 2000 on a really old Pentium 3 with only 384 megs of memory.

You might be out of luck.. Maybe if you disable all extensions you may be able to limp along for a while. Also you could try stopping caching to memory by finding this pref browser.cache.memory.enable in about:config and setting to false to save on RAM.

If you want to keep it on this -

#1. Export your bookmarks as .html, close Firefox and put them in the profile folder. Rename both places.sqlite and the bookmarkbackups folder to ...whatever and restart and it will use just those bookmarks. Get your bookmark total down to about 500.

#2. Do not keep any browser history and get rid of session restore via about:config. You need to violently reduce your read/writes and then you might just about get away with FF12 running on that spec.

Thanks for those tips, folks!

I'll start pruning my installation right away.

Just so you know, you will not be able to use Firefox 13.0 because Win2000 does not support what is needed. The minimum Windows will be Windows XP SP2.
