Re: With update to version 16.0 the Send Link is gone.
I'm guessing that they've removed this in anticipation of replacing it with something in Social. (Jumping the gun a bit, no? how long did it take to get the replacement for the Downloads indicator? a year and a half?) I need to make a note to myself to add this to Luddite UI... too bad I didn't know about it before the update or I would already have a fix for it.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Love this forum so I can join those people already in pain.
I love my send link. Now it's gone. No replacement so far. Luckily it's still there (via Firefox menu) but I fear it will be removed soon too.
See, from FF 3 to around FF12, things where cool. FF added new amazing features.
Since a few releases/months, all the stuff I like starts to disappear or change in ways I'm not comfortable with. Few examples:
- remove http:// in front of URLs when displaying. Bites you now and then when copy pasting parts of URL and such; fixable via browser.urlbar.trimURLs to false (I think; or maybe it was browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled )
- "switch to tab" - man that was annoying. I deliberately purposefully open links to same pages in multiple tabs (read: phpmyadmin and such); luckily there's https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... e/?src=api
The list is longer but I don't remember all of them right now. A year ago I couldn't wait for new releases, I was hot for them. Today new releases mostly tend to annoy me because all that stuff that's important to me stops working.
I don't have time for extensive upfront testing like it's suggested.
And the worst part of all: I'm a web developer. Go figure.
This sucks

I got that Send link back because I use the Toolbar Buttons extension (looks like it may be gone soon since the Author seems to be silent) and it had a button in it... but, that extension I posted looks like it does the same thing.
As you can see she's (The CAT) always alert and on the prowl for Meoware !!

In Firefox, under options -> applications -> mailto, I can pick Gmail. According to here, lots of other webmail services can be set as the mailto as well: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cha ... l-services
So, even though full email clients are becoming much less popular, the send link and send image functions *do* work with webmail. Perhaps the reason heatmap tests show such low usage of this function is that people do not know this.
A large portion of websites have a contact the author email link which is a mailto: link. Is all it takes a few times of people clicking them and it going to a never-used default like Outlook and people are trained not to click them? Even in the bugzilla entries some of the developers seem to think that mailto: only works with Email clients and doesn't work with webmail.

Here's my running tally... although I need to update this to match the current version:

i used the "send link" daily. the firefox developers seem to like removing functionality from firefox. i can't think of any improvements (functionally) in firefox since v. 4. lots of frustration with changes, though. lots of people have stopped updating firefox, or have moved to other browsers, because of this nonsense.

I had removed the "Send" items from the context menus because I had no use for them; consequently, I did not notice anything!

Although this add-on is no longer being maintained, it still works well with Fx 16.0.1 and adds 'Email This' to context menu:

i use the "menu editor" addon. i added 'email this' to the general right click menu, so now it appears on a page on right click. i think it will send differently depending if cursor is on a link as opposed to somewhere else on a page. but i haven't tested it.
