You'll have to come up with more than one example to create a case where people could figure out what's happening... whether it's really a Firefox issue, or this site is just busted. And yes, sites can be seriously broken on new versions, not because of a bug in the browser, but because of deprecated standards.

Starts automatically for me. The Raven starts with a train going through the mountains and moves to a ship etc. Blackwell starts with game play and then opens in some dames house. Am I missing something?

edit: It contains a SWF embeded video according to page info...Media....Do you have the Shockwave Player?

willarson... the problem occurs in Firefox 23... you appear to be still on 22.

Is 23 Beta or a stable release? Thanks.

Stable... due to the sheer massive numbers of users, Mozilla can no longer deliver updates to everyone at the same time. The updates are staggered. I'm not exactly sure of what system they use to determine who gets it when, but I suspect it's divided at least by nationality. You can go to Help > About Firefox to force it to look for updates.

Everybody is just getting through 22 and now they want to start over again with 23? Where does everyone find time to enjoy the online activities? Not meant as criticism....just a personal observation. Mozilla is speeding up the assembly line and the workers are tripping over each other to try and keep up. On strike.

... it's been releasing at the same pace for nearly two years now... let's get back on topic.

Does anyone have this problem on other sites they can link to?

Kenny Wallace (yeah, the NASCAR driver) is a Vine freak LOL. https://twitter.com/Kenny_Wallace

He's got all kinds of Tweets with Vine Videos. Here's a specific tweet I picked at random: https://twitter.com/Kenny_Wallace/statu ... 2466618368 Here's one he did an hour ago: https://twitter.com/Kenny_Wallace/statu ... 9295338496

In order for me to play them (stop being a still image), I have to set "media.windows-media-foundation.enabled" in about:config to "false". I made a toolbar button that toggles the setting so I can turn it on/off whenever. All the setting does is turn off H.264 HTML5 support as it shows here: https://www.youtube.com/html5

This only affects Windows 7+ users I think as Windows comes with the H.264 Codec already installed.

I think this is a pretty good theory for now. It might be worth filing a bug against as Mozilla has probably been playing around with the implementation of routing those OS codecs.

If any of you does want to file a bug, be sure to try in Safe Mode first, then setup a testing profile and install a Nightly build to see if it's still happening there.

Well, I did some testing with my own webpage using the Vine video as the source. Firefox and the OS are able to decode and play the video fine. The problem seems to be how the <video> tag is coded. If you look here: https://vine.co/v/hb3lnVb3EIg# There is no play button that you can click on to start playing the video. You also can't right click and select "play" due to the overlaying elements. If the <video> tag had the "autoplay" attribute then the video would start playing automatically. The JavaScript is supposed to let you click on the image to start playing it. This only seems to work when Adobe Flash is playing it.

When HTML5 H.264 is disabled, that Vine page plays the video using Adobe Flash instead which seems to autoplay it without the need for hitting a play button.

So technically I don't know if this is really a Firefox bug or not.

I did a test with a new, clean profile with no extensions installed and the video at https://vine.co/v/hb3lnVb3EIg would still not play unless I toggled that setting to False (which plays it with Flash instead of HTML5 H.264).

Hmmm.... I'm curious... is everyone encountering this issue on HTTPS domains?
