Can't open Internet Shortcuts.

Post by hpwilson »

Message: "Unable to open this Internet Shortcut. The protocol 'http' does not have a registered program.'

I've used Firefox successfully up until a few days ago, now shortcuts I've used hundreds of times return the above message.

Any help, please. Thanks.

Make sure you've set Firefox as the default browser. Tools > Options > General tab > Click "Check if Firefox is default"; if it's not then set it to be so.

Thanks. I tried that, but it didn't work. I've kept messing around, and I did something that automatically added ".url" to the title of every internet icon on the desktop, and now the shortcuts work. I think it had something to do with associating the shortcuts with some program that will open them. I would like to be able to remove the ".url" from each shortcut identification on the desktop, but that puts me right back where I was. I just cant find a way to associate a program with the internet shortcuts that doesn't require the visible ".url" suffix right on the desktop..

Will greatly appreciate any further help.
