Any Known Firefox 35.0.1. Issues with YouTube?

Post by mike20021969 »

I'm having high cpu usage when uploading video to YouTube using Firefox 35.0.1 (new profile & no add-ons):

Image

Uploading with Firefox 31.4.0 ESR has no high cpu usage at all (default profile & all add-ons enabled):

As soon as uploading is complete, cpu usage returns to normal.
Are any underlying problems known regarding this? I think it was also happening with Firefox 34.x too.

YouTube has been pushing HTML5 video to Firefox 35 users. The overhead you are seeing is likely the video content being loaded into the HTML5 player. In previous versions, this overhead was partially masked by the plugin-container process which contained the Flash plugin.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

I get around 15% CPU while uploading a video with Firefox 35.0.1. It does drop down to almost 0 when it's done.

Certainly don't see the 70% you have.

> 70%

I see 45% (from his screenshot).

I believe % going to be affected by the number of CPU cores.
So 45%, assuming a dual core, is going to be (roughly) ~= 15% on a quad.
If it were 45% on a quad, then he would be seeing 2x compared to you (also assuming quad).
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Is that within Firefox itself?

That's correct.

Yeah, I do have a Quad core: Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Processor

During the video upload process, the HTML5 player is not a factor because it's not actually playing anything. There isn't even a player window.

The CPU usage only occurs during the file upload process. As soon as it goes from uploading to processing (on their end) it goes down.

Did some tests. With IE9 the video wouldn't upload at all, LOL Then tried Palemoon 25.2.1 and it used at most 3% CPU while uploading a video.

24.7.2 used almost no CPU for me.

Yes. Sort of. It depends on a variety of factors because HTML5 is a complicated mess, but generally yes.

That's because Palemoon isn't Firefox 35 so it gets delivered Flash.

Firefox 35 is also using Flash unless I set Flash to never activate.
