Installed it on 3 machines, all XP Home SP2 and all 3 had different issues, wouldn't start, locking up, a circled / in place of the pointer when mousing over a link, sporadic connection issues..etc. Used MozBackup to save info then did a total uninstall the installed 1.0.4 and all is ok again.
Did someone fire the programmers for 1.0.5 and below then hire 4 year olds for 1.0.6??? : )
Since 1.0.4. works ok, most likely xp2's firewall. The issues are not that different - definitely all firewall related - plus 1.0.6. isn't any different than 1.0.4. except for some fixes http://www.mozilla.org/projects/securit ... ml#Firefox
I can see why you posted anonymously. Sounds like "you" believe you're a firefox expert and wouldn't want anyone to dispute that.

I thought this could be just a glitch, but the installer has various problems (text not appearing, etc) and then it crashes.

How do I get Firefox installer to use libstdc++.so.6.0.4 or does it actually need libstdc++.so.5 and if so, where do I get a copy?
By digging around on the Internet I seem to have found the answer to my own problem. You have to install compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.fc4.i386 from Installation CD#3 before the install of Firefox 1.0.6 will proceed.
Firefox is not displaying web pages.
I installed 1.0.6. When I try to go to a page now, the bar at the bottom of the window says its connecting and then says "Done" but the display window is a blank white page.
I unistalled and reinstalled yesterday and thought it fixed the problem. After starting up my computer later in the day, it came back. Reinstall doesn't work now, rebooted a number of times. No luck.

what's the deal?
A quote from the release notes, troubleshooting section of installation instructions:
"If you encounter strange problems relating to bookmarks, downloads, window placement, toolbars, history, or other settings, it is recommended that you try creating a new profile and attempting to reproduce the problem..."
If you have extensions/themes, you may wish to start here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic
My FF 1.0.6 doesn't seem to want to open tabs with the center click all the time. For instance on google news, I have to right click open in new tab on the headline, but I can center click the related headlines. Makes NO sense at all.
I am running ME and have downloaded Firefox, installed some themes and then the Google Toolbar. Closed down then restarted Firefox, but I get message that a script is causing my PC to slow down and cant open Firefox. I can use IE6 and no problems. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, still same message.
I installed 1.0.6 on top of 1.0.4 just as I always have. Install went fine. It's now asking for a profile which it never did, extensions and bookmarks are gone. Popups galore. Basically, if this had been my first view of firefox, I'd think it to be shite. I hope there's somewhere I can download 1.0.4 to put it back. :/
I updated to 1.06 when FF told me update was available today. Computer ran fine for a couple of hours of surfing. Then noticed real slow response time, FF was using 300Mb of memory. Closed all tabs and windows. Clicked on desktop icon to fire back up and get a new user sign on? Had to create a profile and sign back in.
BAD News was doing this i LOST all my bookmarks, over 100 easy, that i use. Any way to get these bookmarks back?
Thanks..
BTW, really like Firefox and this is the first problem that I had. I did not see anywhere when updating to 1.06 from 1.04 that I needed to save my profile instead of having it deleted. I am posting this to help the next poor guy that is going to lose everything he had saved. I will of course make a back up copy from now on. Hindsight is really 20/20.
