You didn't mention anywhere in your post that you created a "new" profile and then checked to see if the problem persisted. It's possible you didn't delete everything in your profile folder (no matter how many times you deleted it) and reinstalling, thinking you were using a new profile, was actually not the case. Keep in mind - if you have more than one version in your add/remove programs, that could be generating problems too. Please don't be lazy about reading other threads using "Forum Links: Search" on the right hand side of this page, mozillazine search and the various help and trouble shooting sections.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_Issues

Maybe once, depending on the problem(s), after other things have been tried and after the standard diagnostic has been done, but I've never seen anything, anywhere, anytime about installing, uninstalling and reinstalling over and over again, fixing ANY FX problem. :)

When I say "I deleted my profile" (yes, same person, I've just registered this time) I mean I actually closed Firefox and deleted every file in my profile directory. That or deleted the entire directory. (Yes, I did back the whole shebang up first) In the latter case, Firefox would throw up the "Select profile" dialog; in the former it would just create new files. I've only ever seen one version in Add/Remove Programs, even when upgrading from, say, 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 without doing a clean install.

Reading the links you've provided now...I hope something sheds some light...

The last HAS reduced the frequency considerably, but there are still occasional images that are rendered incorrectly.

It could be one or more of your extensions corrupting 1.0.6. even though you said you didn't see new ext versions, and you still had the problem in safe mode. Some extensions are more risky than others and a few definitely have side-effects. Without knowing what extensions you have, can't be more definitive. But, based on your words above, it's possible. You might try uninstalling all of them. This thread http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQ ... Extensions gives additional insight (especially about manual uninstall) In other words, if nothing else works, take out as many as you can, disable the rest and reboot, since creating a new profile hasn't worked - at least not yet.

Also, besides security updates, 1.0.6. was released to "Restore API compatibility for extensions and web applications that did not work in Firefox 1.0.5." "Firefox 1.0.6 is a stability update."
It's possible one or more of your extensions were not compatible with 1.0.5. and continues to create FX instability in 1.0.6, even if those same extensions may be stable on other's installations.

The extensions I DID have were Bookmark Backup, Show Failed URL, (unknown versions) Tabbrowser Extensions, (not Preferences, Extensions) and Adblock 0.5.2.039-fx since that was the only version I could get to install. Right now though, I don't have ANY extensions installed. A reboot hasn't helped things.

So, now you have 1.0.4., no extensions or themes, with a new profile, right? Were the extensions removed before or after your current new profile? I figure you've checked this thread too: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=288184 but just want to be sure. Have you ever changed any default settings in about:config? Can you provide a link to one of the images you have a problem with? (not the example, the actual address link)

This sounds very much like a virus and/or other malware problem. Are you running frequent scans?

I uninstalled Firefox and then deleted the entire Mozilla directory under Application Data. I also deleted the Program Files\Mozilla Firefox directory for good measure, before reinstalling everything.

The TRULY weird thing is, a friend suggested turning off the firewall to check. The same problem occurred, but then it occurred to me to try plugging my Ethernet cable into the other port. (I have a Gigabyte motherboard with two Ethernet ports - one is the nForce controller, the other is a Marvell PCIe Gigabit link) And with the cable in the Marvell's port, images are now loading fine.

I DID upgrade my motherboard drivers recently, but I can't understand why the network controller would result in images being corrupted SOME of the time; I also can't figure out why this didn't start happening until I installed 1.0.6, and then continued to happen when I reinstalled 1.0.4.

Sounds like it could be a FX-hardware conflict issue.

Alert a moderator about your topic about moving it to the tech forum: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=37
Continuing the discussion there might shed more light on the issue.
Just in case you're not sure how to reach one,
see bottom of mozillazine forum index page - the registered users in bold when online.
Glad they're loading fine now :)

and,
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic

You won't lose your settings and bookmarks if you backup your profile (if you need to create a new one). Extensions are a different story.

That's a good question. However, this forum and topic are meant primarily, for those having problems. Your yahoo games question may have a relatively simple answer, but might require more than one reply, is not common and doesn't relate to installation problems/issues.

Since other newbies read this topic seeking answers to problems (especially installation problems) if your question were answered here, others would likely begin to ask similar questions and take this topic in other directions.

It certainly doesn't sound like you don't like the original topic or are trying to derail it http://forums.mozillazine.org/rules.php#20
but here's a better place to post your question http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=7

If you can't find what you are looking for... please search the forum before asking. Further support resources: the MozillaZine KnowledgeBase and the official firefox help pages."

Also, using search engines like google, yahoo, ask jeeves and others, sometimes provides the right answers.

Thanks for understanding. Forum moderators, members and guests look forward to answering questions related to Mozilla applications.
