ff40 forces https on everything then no certificates..

Post by wtf! »

Is this a joke??

I just installed the latest firefox. Almost every site I try to connect to (including MOZILLA.ORG!) is using the https crap. And its the automatically chosen way to connect to all sites it seems. i get this warning on all https sites: bla bla bla this connection is not trusted.
site x uses an invalid security certificate. ----sec_error_unknown_issuer----

EVERY [censored] site!

How do I turn it off?? I can't even download plugins/addons for this version since that is also a https page and therefor blocked.
thinking about services.addons.mozilla.org for example.

I want to permanently disable this "feature". Basically I don't want to see a page not loading ever again. https or not.
And I definitely don't want to add exeptions for pretty much the entire internet.

That's not a firefox feature.
Either you have an addon that is forcing HTTPS (like "HTTPS Everywhere") or your security software is acting up.

Try firefox safe mode (Help -> Start with addons disabled).

BTW: mozilla.org has HSTS enabled forcing HTTPS.

Check your security software. We had several reports of this behaviour. It went away after disabling it (or replacing with another one).

Using AVAST as your security program?

What type of security software could be causing this? I have symantec end point protection apparantly. I'm not admin on this computer so I have no idea what adjustments I can make.

I see pretty much everything is controlled by "the management server".

Have you talked to your administrator?

Yeah I was up there. ASnd basically he told me that our major multinational company is set up on internet exploder. and yes probably its some of the automatic vpn tunnelinhg, or the external firewalls or the "antivirus" causing this. Basically he didn't know anything more than me.

He also showed me how to install internet explorer 11. and after "learning" that I somehow feel very unenlightened, somehow.,

If your work access is proxied, and IE is trusting the proxy, you probably can figure out which signing certificate the proxy uses and export it from IE and import it into Firefox. For an example of the steps to do that for a Zscaler proxy, see: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1 ... wer-745280

I am surprised that they even allowed you to install Firefox. If your IT department tells you that they are an I.E. shop I would live with it at work.
