Flash Crash

Post by artmo »

Running W7.

I am having problems viewing certain sites. I get the message 'The Adobe Flash Player has crashed'

I have searched the forum and tried to get things going but nothing seems to work. I am confused.

Can you please help to see if this problem can be resolved. I am a computer illiterate so please give advice in a simply way.

Thank you.

What version of Flash do you have installed on that system? Look under menu path Tools->Addons->Plug-ins.

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Yes the same thing happens in safe mode. I get the Adobe crash message when attempting to view content of most web pages. There is also a particular site I try to use, a speed test site, where I also get the crash message. The site works well on my laptop.

I think in going into safe mode I have caused another problem. I have lost the top line of icons on Firefox, File, edit, view......help.

I think what I did was to click 'restart Firefox in the safe mode box. Where have these gone?

Thanks for your help.

OK, one suggestion that seemed to have helped others in the past is to remove Flash and then reinstall the latest version. https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb ... ndows.html

I have major problems. I started following your suggestion and got a window asking me to update Firefox. I clicked on this and immediately lost all my bookmarks, history, etc. I then had a folder on my desktop named Old Firefox Data. First question is how can I get this back into Firefox?

Since this happened Firefox and Thunderbird have been difficult to open and crash frequently.

I am getting 2 error messages;

1. jAVA(tm) wEB sTART 11.51.2.16-fes
Error encountered while invoking Java Web Start (sysExe)
c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0.51\bin\java.ws.exe

2. chrome://messenger/content/toolbarlconColor.js.53

I am completely lost with this problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

In fact you need to copy the files from the "Old firefox data" folder back into your profile folder.

Thank you for your reply.

Things seem a little better. Last night I had a popup asking me to update Java. I did this and since then my system has returned to a more stable state. I hope this continues.

I still can't get Adobe Flash working but I'll leave that for now. I plan to install W10 on this machine soon - am I right that this may allow Flash to work properly again?

I will try to put my 'Old Firefox Data' back where it came from later today. Fingers crossed

FWIW, according to your UA string you have been posting with Windows 10 since Yesterday, 1:57 pm.... or maybe a different 'puter?

Thanks to everyone who helped on this.

I haven't got the problem totally resolved but I am disappearing to the US until mid October so will leave things as they are and hopefully get them sorted on my return.

Thank you again.
