Win10: name os space to change color
In Win10, what is the name of the blank space between the menu bar and the top of the tabs?
In WinXP it was blue and in Win10 it is grey.
I'd like it to be dark blue to make things stand out more.
I tried "Settings", "Personalize", but that only controls the color of the title bar ABOVE the menu
bar and the space that I'm talking about.
Thanks

I believe I know what you are talking about... but it would be better if you posted a screen-shot of what you have in there... because users alter their Firefox a lot ... so, a pic is best.

Re: Win10: name os space to change color
I have the image ready to post, but my Photobucket account isn't accepting my password,
when I ask to reset my password and enter the information, I'm then told that password
reset isn't available, and when I try to contact them for help, I have to give my user
name and password!
As soon as I find a place to post the screen capture, I will.
(P.S.: My FF 47.0 is vanilla on Win10, upgraded from Win8.1)

I use Tiny-pic... link in this doc....
See: Posting_a_screenshot_on_the_forum.
Posting a screenshot on the forum - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
Use a compressed image format like .png or .jpg and please do not post large images that break the forum layout, use thumbnails instead or only post a link.
If you need a place to host a screenshot... Note the "Uploading for general use" section of the document.

I followed the instructions on that page while accessing Tinypic but I didn't see a "Forum Thumbnail", so I copied the bottom 3 which looked useful.
If the image that shows up is too large, let me know and I'll figure out a way to reduce it.

Reason: made first image as thumbnail link as it was too wide for img tags at 1,598px

I believe that that area is still controlled by Windows... you mention Settings/Personalize but did not post what you tried in there...rickety_goodman wrote:In Win10, what is the name of the blank space between the menu bar and the top of the tabs?

Using my test profile (very few changes to it and none that affect that area) ... the color I have in that same area is a green-shade color and I have my Personalize area with a 'dark' green 'theme' but I also have my Windows color setting (at the bottom of that personalize area) ... set to a lighter green with some transparency... check that out.

Re: Win10: name os space to change color
Sorry about that image size. There was a button on the Tinypic website to preview what the image
would look like. Since it only showed 1/4 size I figured I was OK.
For people who have never done this before, it would help if the tutorial specifically stated that the
"IMG /IMG" code is going to display the enclosed, linked image at native size directly in the forum.
I thought I was merely including a link where they could go find the image if they wanted to.
For test purposes, in "Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Personalization", I have set the background to solid bright red, and
in "Choose a Color" I have picked a solid bright blue "accent" color. The following 2 switches are turned on:
Show color on Start, taskbar, action center, and title bar
Make Start, taskbar, and action center transparent
When I close all programs, my desktop is bright red except for the task bar, which is transparent blue.
When I open any program, the title bar is bright blue, but since FF is the only program that I have with that
particular page layout, it is the only one that shows grey in that area (still, with the background set to red)
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Win10: name os space to change color
You can consider to install a lightweight theme (Persona) with a solid color to style the toolbar area with a background color.
You can also use code in userChrome.css to set the background color of the navigator-toolbox.
Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.
The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.

You can also use code in userChrome.css to set the background color of the navigator-toolbox.
Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.
Code: Select all
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
#navigator-toolbox {background-color: #2222FF !important;}

Re: Win10: name os space to change color
The only "Chrome" directory on my Win10 setup belongs to the Google Chrome browser.
The userChrome.css file does not exist on my C: drive.
The userContent.css file does not exist on my C: drive.
When I trace down the application data ("AppData"), I find the following in the "profiles" directories:
= Local ==================================
appdata > Local > mozilla > firefox > profiles > xxxxxxxx.default
(directories)
cache2
jumpListCache
OfflineCache
safebrowsing
startupCache
thumbnails
(files)
_CACHE_CLEAN_
directoryLinks.json
frequencyCap.json
= Roaming =====================================
appdata > Roaming > mozilla > firefox > profiles > xxxxxxxx.default
(directories)
bookmarkbackups
crashes
datareporting
extensions
gmp
gmp-eme-adobe
gmp-gmpopenh264
gmp-widevinecdm
jetpack
minidumps
saved-telemetry-pings
searchplugins
sessionstore-backups
storage
webapps
(files)
(34 files:( json & sqlite, mostly))
I recognize the files you mentioned from WnXP, so if we can figure out how to do it
in Win10, I'd like to try it.
Thanks

Re: Win10: name os space to change color
Just create a folder Chrome or chrome... in your profile... either works...
Then within that folder create the file userChrome.css file and put that code in it... you will need to restart Firefox. ...and the cap 'C' in the file name is needed.
Though I still not sure why you don't get the proper colors by using Windows settings... I have no Chrome stuff in there for my Test profile... seems to all be handled by windows.
