Never ending problems, now streaming

Post by Bruce L. »

I have two computers, a desktop and laptop, both W7, both FF 47.0, both have latest Flash installed and working properly.

Just within the past few days I cannot stream my local radio station -- on my laptop only. It works fine on my desktop.

Laptop: I tried using Explorer, and this particular station doesn't work either. All other stations work on FF, including other iHeart stations. So there has to be some setting on my laptop that isn't right, although I haven't changed anything manually. I have popups allowed on iHeart, although I don't think that has anything to do with this.

Here is the link for the radio station: http://www.iheart.com/live/wham-1180-15 ... =main.html I'm betting it will work for you.

I tried all the Adblock settings, still doesn't work. Below is a pik of another local radio site, also iHeart, which works fine for me, link here.

(I added all of the colored arrows.) Note the red arrows which point to that black band running across the bottom. That is as it should be, and you can click either the yellow arrow or the green arrow towards the top of the picture to start playing.

On the station that suddenly stopped working, linked in my OP see here, that black band across the bottom is now missing, along with the yellow arrow. The green arrow is still there, but if I click it absolutely nothing happens. I need to get that black band back. I've been streaming this station for over ten years and never had this problem until a few days ago. It's obviously some setting within FF, and only on my laptop and is only affecting this one station (as far as I know).

Both work the same for me, with ABP disabled, try clearing the Fx cache and iheart cookies.
Other than that or something Flash (which fires up at both stations) Related I don't know..
See if the same thing happens in Firefox Safe Mode. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode

The first thing I did several days ago was clear cookies. Just cleared again, along with cache, etc. still didn't work.

I just installed Chrome and the station in question DID work, just like it used to in FF. Got the black band on the bottom as described in my last post.

So it does NOT work in FF or Explorer, but DOES work with Chrome.

Will try FF safe mode later tonight.

My goal is to get the channel in my OP to work in FF like it has for 10 years.

The next chapter:

I removed Chrome because it pinned itself to my taskbar <HATE>, I unpinned it, but a couple of arrows remained there that I couldn't get rid of. Bye Chrome. I hate anything that has to do with Google anyway.

So I open Explorer again and there was a note saying to update Flash. I did, and the station in question now works.

Am I correct that each browser has its own Flash?

FF tells me its Flash is up to date, but it still won't stream the station.

EDIT: I forgot to try FF-safe mode last night, so just tried it now and it DOES stream the station correctly. So some extension is causing a problem with ONE specific iHeart stream? Now what?

As you've been told several times in the past, if all's well in Safe Mode... You find out which Extension's causing the problem and, if an update which cures the problem's not available, you nuke it.

about:addons -> Plugins, verify that you have the latest Flash (Windows, "Mozilla") v22.0.0.192 & that it is enabled.

(Also, if it is set to click-to-play, not all sites get along with that, so might try setting it to Always.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.
