(Solved Ubun 16.04.1, FF 48, sort bookmarks kills ad blocker
I have tried several different sort bookmarks extensions and several different ad blockers. On restart of FF, ad blocker is not running. Remove sort bookmark extension and restart FF, and ad blocker is there. I do not recall things in FF47 but was not on it long enough to remember.
Thanks for looking in.
EDIT: This may not be that big a deal as I just noticed Bookmarks / show all bookmarks / Sort by name

Sometimes extensions have just the one extra thing which is why folks install them.
Sort function of the default bookmarks in Firefox has always had a good spread of choices.
There's ten including a back and forth a-z / z-a.
Once you open Show All Bookmarks look under View and the Sort item has the drop down list.
You can also set the default way in which you want them added like location, visitied, time, etc.

Thanks! I do not see how to set "the default way I want them added". I just see a bunch of different ways to sort them.

Open Show All Bookmarks.
Under /Views/Sort click on the one in the list you want.
That should set the condition.

Re: Linux Ubun 16.04.1, FF 48, sort bookmarks kills ad block
I tried that but it didn't do anything. I had selected sort by name. I added a new one but it put it at the bottom. I tried view sort sort by name again but nothing. I did Bookmarks menu/sort by name and it sorted it correctly. I just wish it were automatic as you were suggesting...

Try this, do what I described, close Firefox and reopen Firefox and see if the dot held before adding a book mark.
It should be automatic unless there's something interfering with it like an extension.
Did you remove the Sort Bookmarks extension? It may have commandeered the control.
I just tried it and it didn't hold for me either.
Something has changed and it was probably discussed in the 'zine and I missed it.

Ah - the dot never moves off unsorted.

There were some settings for browser.bookmarks. direction and browser. bookmarks. resource but they look to have been removed.

I then found even the sort in library didn't work. Started a second profile for FF and in process realized bookmarks were screwed up, so cleaned them up and now it works fine with auto sort bookmarks extension and uBlock origin.

Re: (Solved Ubun 16.04.1, FF 48, sort bookmarks kills ad blo
Hey, you were nice and gave me ideas and that kept me working on it! I had resisted starting a new FF profile, but since i copy my sessions, preferences for tabmix and session mgr, passwords, etc, it really was a quick change. I had looked at bookmarks before and thought it was messed up, but this gave me the chance to just stop and spend 5 minutes cleaning it up. voila!!! I run about 200 tabs in 7 groups and maybe 200 bookmarks. But all made it through unscathed! Nice!!! I had been thinking that FF was awfully touchy, but turns out it was just my bookmarks. I also somehow had session mgr in there twice on the first try, so was very careful how I installed the extensions and works fine. So thanks!!!
