Ebay crashes Firefox -- every time

Post by next2it »

Even in FF safe mode this happens, since the latest "stable" release. All Ebay pages now seem to do this, taking me to Mozilla crash reporter very quickly as the page loads. Very frustrating!

Here are the crash reports:

https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/ ... 7572170227

https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/ ... bec2170226

Any insights? Some older versions of Firefox, last year, used to have this problem but on Ebay checkout only. Now it happens on every Ebay page that I have tried.

Thanks!

Just tried the eBay site, search for a Polaroid Land camera.
Only issue was had to allow all the page due to NoScript, recieved an allow JavaScript warning panel.
Pictures and page loaded fine.

Have you tried it in safe mode?
Do you have an ad blocker?
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

Thanks for responding. Yes, I tried and there is no difference in safe mode -- still crashes almost instantly when visiting Ebay pages. And in safe mode my Adblock Plus is disabled.

Did you allow cookies?
Have you looked at your control panel to see if there are any interrupt conflicts?
Have you scanned your system lately for malware, etc?

Crash-report is showing your crashing in lspent7.dll which from I see in googling may be malware, or something injected in Winsock. How to figure out/fix that I'm not sure.

What AV (Antivirus) are you using? I appears it may be related to either Avast or AVG as it also showing commchannel.dll as part of the crash. (Part of Avast)

Do you still crash if you start your PC in Safe-mode w/networking ? Be careful as this bypasses all security software. Test just enough to see if you're still crashing.

I know it seems odd that its only Ebay that's causing the crash, so no idea why your not crashing more. Looking at crash-reports for this signature in the report you seem to be perhaps the only one hitting this issue, there are few other reports.

Also would not hurt to download and run https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ it could be some malware causing the crash.

Thank you Grumpus and Visitor.

I tried Windows safe mode and FF safe mode simultaneously. Still crashed. Looked up lspent7.dll, but it has been a part of SysWow64 since 2011, so probably not the problem. Disabled Avast; still crashed.

FINALLY I found the problem. I erased all ebay cookies, and there were at least a dozen of them. Now it does not crash. After re-logging-in to ebay, functionality appears normal.

Thanks again!

Now the problem has returned. Ebay search results (but not the Ebay home page) crashes Firefox every time.

Deleting all cookies does not help.

Disabling all add-ons does not help.

Doing a full Firefox refresh does not help.

Uninstalling 32-bit Firefox and installing 64-bit Firefox does not help.

I am about to give up on my decades-long use of Firefox unless I can solve this soon.

you got the hint about adware, please search and clean: lspent7.dll -> winsock = malware!
And disable dropbox extension in browser

1. AdwCleaner AdwCleaner Download
Insert [Report] here, then [Cleanup]

2. Let Malwarebytes (install as free) search
Download https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/
Insert logfile here
