javascript enabled/disabled

Post by baergy »

Gmail and Facebook both report Javascript is disabled using Firefox. Javascript sample runs fine in Firefox. Gmail and Facebook are fine in Chrome and Edge.

What's this Javascript sample? Anyway, check about:config and make sure javascript.enabled is set to true. Do you have something like NoScript installed where you need to allow Javascript on those sites?

Anyway, Facebook works fine for me.

just google for a 'Javascript sample'. click it and it will run a simple application that uses Javascript. That way you can tell if it's working or turned on.
And YES, I did go through about:config and assured that it was on.

Else... have you tried Firefox safe-mode yet?
Try running Firefox in safe-mode... NOTE: This is a testing procedure only ... NOT for normal browsing.
-- On the menu bar, click the Help menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled....
Firefox will start up with the Firefox Safe Mode dialog. Click continue in Safe Mode and don't check any items.

Note: You can also start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the shift key while Single/Double clicking on the icon.
* (option key while starting Firefox on Mac).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>What safe-mode does ..... Safe Mode temporarily affects the following:
* All extensions are disabled. --- * The userChrome.css and userContent.css files are ignored.
* The default theme is used, without a persona. --- * The default toolbar layout is used.
* The Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compiler is disabled. --- * Hardware acceleration is disabled.

-- Safe Mode has no effect on the following --
* The status of plugins is not affected.
* Custom preferences are not affected.

This is the link to the main KB article for Safe-Mode ... but, use the above info 1st...

Thank you I started it in safe mode and everything on Facebook and Gmail worked. Tried it again to open Firefox normally, but it does not work properly.

Which most likely means that you have a script blocking extension in your profile... like Noscript? ... if so, then you need to allow scripts for those sites.. and if you in deed do use that extension you need to read up on it .... and if you mouse over the its icon down there on the lower status bar it will show you what it is blocking...and you can allow the scripts for those sites to be active.
