Firefox 52.0.1 slow

Post by ml8800 »

Hi,

Ever since v. 52.0.1 my Firefox browser has been running very slow. Everything from watching videos on YouTube where the buffering barely keeps up with the video, and opening articles on a local news site, to playing Facebook games where it takes more than twice as long to load everything. It feels as if my internet connection is really slow but all speed tests has shown no sign of it what so ever. I tried pinging different websites but nothing wrong with their connection.

I tried installing Firefox v. 52.0.1 64bit- nothing changed
I tried running Firefox in SafeMode- didn't work
I tried checking my internet connection and speeds- looks good
I tried using a different browser than Firefox (Google Chrome)- worked far better and a lot more responsive than Firefox v. 52.0.1
I tried reinstalling Adobe Flash Player to see if it affected Facebook games- did not
I tried scanning for malware- nothing
I tried clearing cache and cookies- did not help
I tried restarting my computer

What I haven't tried is to install Firefox v. 52.0.0 or lower to see if there is any difference, but I'd like to stick with the most recent version or not stick at all.

I run WIndows 10 Pro 64bit and my antivirus program is ESET NOD32 Antivirus 9.0.408.0

The latest version of ESET NOD32 appears to be 10.0.390.0 https://www.eset.com/uk/home/antivirus/

The problem could be due to corruption in your current Firefox profile and the best way to find out is to create a new one: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_ne ... on_Windows

Keep the current profile and just name the new one to "Test" something similar. If the new profile fixes the problem, yiou can transfer your current settings to the new profile, link to instructions on the same page. You can also rename it to something else afterwards.

I come across this problem frequently myself and creating a new profile always seem to fix it.

Which has NOT been offered by update to users yet,
The OP is using the correct version.
^^
You might want to try disabling Nod32 SSL/TLS protocol filtering and see if things speed up.

I went and made a backup of my Firefox profile, created a new one, and deleted the old one. New Firefox reminded me of Firefox Sync, so I used that to restore my profile.
It helped a little bit to get it reset, though it didn't solve the loading speed on websites/videos/games.

Then I opened my antivirus and disabled/enabled SSL/TLS protocol filtering.
It helped but still a slight delay when content is appearing in my browser. Maybe it's just me.

Thanks for both of you for your help. It did make my browser quicker so I thank you for your helpful inputs.

The initial object of creating that new profile is to create it and then do some testing with it 'before' doing anything else... based on the outcome then you/we move forward...

So... you might want to create another new profile and test it as-is... you can also run both of them at the same time by using the code in this link... use that code for the test profile at first... once things get back to normal and you end up with just one profile... remove the coding....

If you click the "Advanced download" button on the link I provided and then click "Changelog" you'll note that the previous version was 10.0.337.0

According to Wikipedia version 10.0.390.0 was released on January 31, 2017.

Don't need to click anything, I've used Nod32 since Win98 days, until it's been out for a while and any unforeseen problems addressed, ESET do not update USERS to the latest major update.
At the time the OP was using the correct version.
9+ to 10+ update just happened .
@IMO for a new install it's best to use the offline installers.
