shortly after my update FF could not stay open the time varied but just a short time. it kept crashing
when trying to recover it would not open
I went back to 49.0.2 and have no runs fine (also seems to run a bit faster and smoother)
any suggestions? no i did not try and troubleshoot by shutting off various things

AV software doesn't always handle updates correctly... one test (after updating) is to reboot your PC into safe-mode with Network active... if it runs good then... your AV stuff is probably the cause.
Also, you could also bring down the portable version of Firefox to see how it performs.

Plus... before you moved back to that older version had you tried Firefox in safe-mode to check it out?.... it could be a bad extension that doesn't work properly in the later version.

open about:crashes and click on the blue links - then report the resulted link here, looks like
