can't start firefox

Firefox won't start from icon nor from path to \firefox.exe. Always get same error msg "The application unable to start correctly (0x0 ... 0000076).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, checked Windows (Windows 10) firewall settings, but cannot get Firefox to start. It was working OK for many
months and suddenly stopped. Please help. Thank you. Dan

When you uninstalled did you remove the program's installation directory? If not:
Close all applications and reboot the computer.
Delete any downloaded or partially downloaded installer files.
Clear the browser cache (of whatever browser you are using to download FF) and the Windows Temp directory.
Shutdown any anti-virus software you are running.
Download a new copy of the full installer from www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all
Delete the directory C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Run the installer.
Restart the anti-virus program.

If you did do that, does the same start up problem occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

I followed your suggested cure to correct the 'can't start firefox' problem and now have it working. Many thanks for your help. You saved me hours
