firefox 53 video playback on bbc

Has anyone else got problems playing live video from bbc?

It plays, but it looks like it is struggling all the time - the slightest stuttering, very annoying. This never used to happen before the update. It is like it is requiring substantially more resources now (my laptop is a little old but still more than enough for this).

Also noticed recently youtube will often not automatically adjust the quality, not sure if that is youtube or firefox based problem though hard to tell.

No. Works just fine in FF53 and SeaMonkey 2.46

Also, a specific link to a BBC vid would be good... we can all be testing the same thing then.

I've watched BBC videos without Flash before. It seems like something may have changed.

Yes, the one you linked works for me too. Maybe the one I linked is Flash?

I tried the link in Chrome and Safari and it doesn't work in either. Could be the link is not available at the moment.

Most everything played for me But only with Flash and only when Flash was set to Always before entering the page with the Video

Yep, trying to watch a Flash vid with, er, Flash set to never activate is always going to end in tears.

All links work fine for me. But, they would, at time of high demand the Beeb often throttles non-UK based facehuggers.

Obviously. Is there an easy way to tell if it's Flash? Some (if not all) of BBC's videos are available as HTML5.

Which appears to have something to do with Doubleclick ads. Doesn't look like Flash to me.

I was talking about live video only, general videos posted work for me as well.
Which is why I didn't think about posting a link with my problem, the one I was watching via bbc sport at the time for example would have ended an hour or so before the first reply here - but I had the same problem watching that same stream through Iplayer when I tested so it is all the same thing.

I already tried a new clean profile, I might just wipe everything and start again see if anything changes. I have tested in Opera that I installed for the first time in a few years on windows - already using it on mobile. And tested in Edge all work perfectly with live BBC video, just firefox with sluggish playback (it is not massive, just feels like you are playing on really old hardware with the slightest stuttering).
