Weird problem using Firefox in Virtual Machines

Post by Mr_Wolf »

Hi all!

I have a very strange problem using Firefox in VMware Virtual Machines. I'll try to be as clear as possible.

I have two virtual machines, one with Linux and one with Windows 7. In both of them, is installed Firefox 52 with the same exact configuration, the same settings and the same addons, which are exactly the same of Firefox installed in my host machines (with Windows 7).

Among the addons, I have several addons like "History Submenus II" (https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/a ... submenus-2), which arranges by day the history of the sites I visit, and "Form History Control" (https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/a ... ry-control), which saves everything I write in forms.

Both the addons works well in the host machines, but they don't work in the Virtual Machines: "History Submenus II" doesn't collect and arrange any history item (whereas Firefox does store history) and "Form History Control" doesn't store any item I write in the forms.

I discovered that this behaviour is somehow connected to the network adapter used by the virtual machines: if the network adapter is the one created by the virtual machine (NAT) they don't work; if I use an external USB wireless network adapter in the virtual machines to connect to a wireless network, they do work: "History Submenus II" can collect and arrange history items and "Form History Control" stores what I write in the forms.
By the way, this problem has always occurred and doesn't depend, for example, on Firefox version.

Anyone could have an idea of the reason of this strange behaviour?

Thanks in advance!
