Locking Up.

Post by kirkm »

My Firefox locks up after every character typed, or click. Then after about 5-10 seconds starts working again. This cycle repeats continually.

While frozen I cannot drag or d-click the Firefox window. I thought it was my computer but Chrome works OK (all my bookmarks etc. are in Firefox
so I'd prefer to use it.)

I considered uninstalling and reinstalling but cannot find instructions (that I can understand) to save/restore my data.

Before going thru that pain, try restarting Firefox in Safe mode
Go to Menu > Help > Restart with addons disabled
Then see what happens... This is a diagnosis Step

Are you sure that you haven't activated one of Windows built-in accessibility features by accident?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder that stores session data.
When sessionstore.js is deleted you lose pinned tabs and open tabs (make a note or bookmark them if necessary).

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder.
Alternatively you can use about:profiles.
Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory: Windows: Show Folder
