53.x (64-bit) Master password disappeared

Post by qools »

Since update to version 53, my Master password has disappeared.
In the options, the master password id unchecked and it gives me an error "unable to change master password" when I try to set it again.

I tried renaming key3 and signons.sqlite and restart FF, but still the same issue.

How may I recover and re-set the master password?

This might be linked: after I installed FF 53, I noticed it didnt reconnect my Sync login, and even after verifying email address, it is still unable to reconnect to sync.

Try to rename/remove the secmode.db file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory: Windows: Show Folder

Thanks dickvl, your solution worked! I renamed secmode.db and restarted. My master password was back with all my saved logins.
Also sync is back and running.
