How to turn off the window under the search bar as you type?

Post by tinker1234 »

Firefox 52.0.2

Linux Mint 17 Qiana Cinnamon

Hi,

When I type in the search bar, a window with search engine choices in it appears beneath.

How can I turn this off?

Thank you.

That drop down should only appear if you click on the down arrow at the far left of the search bar.

You can close the drop-down list with the ESC key, but it will reopen as soon as you type more characters.

You can consider to move the search bar to the "3-bar" menu button drop-down list via Customization mode or via the right-click context menu of the magnifier icon (Move to Menu).

I would have preferred to do it with some lines in the userChrome.css file, but the FF extension "Old Search Fixed" seems so far to do the job. Sometimes, there's a strange line right under the search box
which pops up a gray text box saying "Change Search Settings" (or some such) when hovered over, but it's very inconsistent.
