how to stop firefox from spending time updating?

Everytime I launch Firefox it spends a minute or so updating. That can be annoying. Is there some way to stop this?

Turn off updates altogether - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ad ... update-tab - not recommended though.

Hi zazzz,

You could disable automatic updates by setting the values of the following preferences to
'false' in about:config :

app.update.auto
app.update.enabled
app.update.silent

(Personaly I wouldn't set all three values to false, though - but that is, of course, totally up to you)

I turned off 'auto-updating' years ago... and then I either watch this board or just do a check for update... because I 'always' perform a profile backup just before I perform an update... saved me a couple of times. ... all I had to do is get into Options/Advanced/Update and I changed it to Never update.

Don't think so... I have auto updates turned off for both Firefox and all Extensions and never see Firefox checking like the OP does.
