It just stops working (mostly)

Post by Nofsdad »

I've got this situation where Firefox 53.0.3 (32 bit) pretty much just stops working. I can cursor over something and it highlights, but I can't click on it and get it to do anything. I can highlight a string of text but I can't bring up a right click context menu to copy or cut it. I can scroll with the mouse button but quite often I can't click any buttons. I've turned off extensions... although to be frank, Firefox is basically useless for me in its out of the box form and unfortunately needs extensions for some some of the basic functions I need to have. I'm running Windows 10, latest free update and even some of the functions that are basic to Windows don't work in Firefox. I've got to assume that I have a problem on this end since there don't seem to be any other complaints like mine but I'm lost as to what to try next. I don't want to go back to Chrome since I've waited all this time for Firefox to be the leader in memory management and the latest version of Chrome is a MASSIVE memory hog. Any suggestions for things to try?

Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?
