That is a personal opinion.

As stated above with regard to switching to Chrome,
No one here really cares
.
And you just called me a 'nobody' .......

It was my understanding that solving Firefox related problems, thus trying to persuade users NOT to start using another browser, is why we're here.

Guess I was wrong .....

Hi "i_am_jim"...
Please read what Firefox' Safe Mode actually does...

It may be down to Hardware Acceleration or a Theme or ?

You may like to try what df posted as well if you can't find the actual cause...

Solve problems - YES
Not to start using another browser - NO

Users are free to do what they want.

We haven't heard from the original poster (lockon).
Since he/she came to us there has been a Firefox udate, which may have made a difference.
I just re-read his/her post and noticed that some of the issues he/she mentioned could have been down to Windows, and be fixed after the latest Windows update.

Would be nice if we could get an 'update' from 'lockon' ......

Trying to persuade users to keep using Firefox instead of another browser :
Not only do I have the OPs best interest at heart - in my book its also called 'being loyal'.
Users are free to do what they want.
Of course they are - no argument there.

Creating a new profile seems to have worked, and I'm close to recovering my setup. But, two things remain. My Password Manager is empty. I must have a hundred saved passwords in there. How do I recover it? And all my cookies seemed to be missing.

PWs in two files: signons.sqlite and key3.db

Install them with FF not running.

Correct.

There is strangeness in this. The key3 file that was in the original profile was dated today and was 16kb size. The backup (from a week ago) I replaced it with was also 16kb. The signons.sqlite file that was in the original profile was dated in 2014. I replaced the one in the new profile with the backup that had the same 2014 date. I have of course saved many passwords since 2014. Before replacing them I had to log on here manually to read the first reply after creating the new profile because the Password Manager was empty so I saved that logon. After replacing both files the only logon in the Password Manager is the one I did just before replacing the two files. I know that's confusing but it was the best I could do.

OK, FF changed the PW file type. With FF not running copy the logins.json file from your old profile to the new one and see what happens.

Note that the change to logins.json happened in Firefox 32 although Firefox still supports importing signons.sqlite by setting a pref (signon.importedFromSqlite = false) and logins.json removed.

That worked.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner but I've been gone all day 'til about an hour ago.

Now what I hope is the final problem -- bookmarks. I can't find a file named bookmarks.
