I think therube nailed it. If you do a search for "vertical bar character in url firefox" you'll see several bugzilla mac results, and one old stack overflow result about using a vertical bar in a URL that says:
We have run-in to a problem with Google Chrome substituting | separator as %7C, whereas Firefox and Safari do not.
So I wouldn't find it shocking that Firefox started emulating Google in this regard. :lol:

Ha! Okay, check this out, RobertJ: Bookmark that page at the beginning of the thread. Go to Bookmarks>Show all bookmarks. Select that bookmark. At the bottom of the window it will show:

Code: Select all

Name: 50 Years of Hitchcock - Wednesdays & Fridays in July

Location: http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/1325477|0/50-Years-of-Hitchcock-Wed-Fri-in-July.html
In that Location field, change the "|" to "%7c". Now open the bookmark and it will work correctly.

So that is the root of the problem. It may be an error on the part of the site, using "|" instead of "%7c".

@Mo_D - put the site in the W3C Validator and it llooks like it might be a translation issue, either system character or site character.
Validator wrote: Warning Line 1730, Column 48: reference not terminated by REFC delimiter
<a href="/this-month/article.html?isPreview=&id=1325477|72459&name=The-Ring">

If you meant to include an entity that starts with "&", then you should terminate it with ";". Another reason for this error message is that you inadvertently created an entity by failing to escape an "&" character just before this text.
However . . . it looks like the character was automatically translated into you %7c somewhat when placed in the url address bar for the Validator.
. . . month/article/1325477%7C0/50-Years-o. . .

PS: That particular site has 430 Errors, 390 warning(s), probably not the best test site.
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you
