I was toggling the 'javascript-enabled' thing, and must have toggled something else by accident. Now if (for example) I close a certain advert on a certain site, I see:
""The address wasn't understood. Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (javascript) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context. You might need to install other software to open this address.""
That's why they warn people not to be stupid!

Hm, how about: network.protocol-handler.external.javascript - default to false.
