v55-64 Ctrl Click URL Question

Post by costark »

FF 55-(64) ..... From a Forum page a Dropbox Link I made in a Private Message Works when Clicked.

IF I copy the Dropbox Link to a Word 2010 doc (this use to work with other links BUT NOW they don't work From WORD docs) I get the cursor-over-link popup about "Ctrl + Clk to follow link" and SEE the hand, but NOW I get a [ Contact Administrator about restrictions on this computer preventing the Link from being accessed ]. Google efforts showed some MS Office discussions about Opening Links but offered nothing related to this.

Is THIS a by-product of the "Evolving" Firefox 55 - OR - is there a Setting to Change?

I can always Copy-Paste the Link into an address bar but IF an answer exists, I'm appreciative for the education.

This is a setting in Word to prevent you from opening malicious links that may be passed in a Word file. You'll need to contact your IT department to reduce the restriction (I am assuming this is a work computer).

This is a problem with the default browser setting.
Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.

If this didn't work then try to reinstall Firefox.

Thanks. Nope, Desktop Home Computer per Signature.

From some readings it was implied that Issues Like Mine may Occur IF you UN-Install Firefox WITHOUT MAKING Another Browser the DEFAULT FIRST. Ever heard of THAT requirement? I can't recall IF this all started when I earlier Uninstalled/Reinstalled FF to Become 64 Bit. Something to research for the Truth Test IF you ever Uninstall FF in the future.

I tried a few Links on a WORD doc with IE 11 as Default and No Good.
Made IE Default and opened a link in IE 11. THEN made Firefox Default again and No Good.
Control Panel: DEFAULTS / Set Your Default Programs/ Set a Program as Default for All File Types & Protocols it can Open/ Hi-Light Firefox/ Set This Program as Default/ Clk'd ........ No Good

Uninstalled FF and RE-Installed - BUT - Forgot to DELETE Program Files\ Mozilla Firefox folder. New Install No Good Maybe because I forgot the Delete.

I THEN made a Test Profile "Use Without Asking" (ie) new Default and Tried some saved-in-WORD links ..... No Good.
I Give Up. Not Life Threatening, anyway, so I'll Copy-Paste for now.
THANKS for the Reply!!

Interesting, FWIW we had that problem at work a few years ago, it was caused by uninstalling Chrome altering a registry key...

Above in my Reply to dickvl .... Have you ever heard of Problems occurring by Uninstalling the Default Browser without FIRST making Another Browser the New Default?
Chrome had something to do with that Directive in another Forum Thread when I was searching around for a fix.
I have No Idea IF THIS affected me, but I won't forget to try it next time ... I hope.

Dunno, in our case, at the time Chrome wasn't allowed but folks were installing it anyway, it was the PC's that IT uninstalled it from that had the problem.
Edit. Got me thinking I seen to recall our guy used a Hotfix..
FWIW somewhat related, I found this .. https://www.ablebits.com/office-addins- ... g-outlook/

Yep, your link ultimately leads to the same Dnload page I used for the Fix It Tool, which saves a lot of time if you try it first.
Browser re-configs, re-installs, and registry edits may help some but none of what I tried did until the Tool.
Good luck!
