Firefox 54 32 Bit Over Use of Memory w/IHeart App

Post by airbrakeee »

Hi,

When using the IHeart website to listen to radio on the net, Firefox uses excessive memory (between 2 - 3 meg) and most often crashes FF when other programs are used. If you try to leave IHeart, Firefox memory high usage stays the same and you cannot close FF unless through Windows forced. Sometimes when attempting to close IHeart, FF crashes. Anyone else having this problem? Running win 7 all programs up-to-date. This has been concurring since FF got rid of Java and Flash Player usage. Same happens in 64 Bit FF. This does not happen with any other website or program. In MS Internet Explorer this is not a problem (even though IE is).

Two standard test are suggested around here...

1st, restart Firefox in safe mode to see what happens...
Try running Firefox in safe-mode... NOTE: This is a testing procedure only ... NOT for normal browsing.
-- On the menu bar, click the Help menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled....
Firefox will start up with the Firefox Safe Mode dialog. Click continue in Safe Mode and don't check any items.

Note: You can also start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the shift key while Single/Double clicking on the icon.
* (option key while starting Firefox on Mac).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>What safe-mode does ..... Safe Mode temporarily affects the following:
* All extensions are disabled. --- * The userChrome.css and userContent.css files are ignored.
* The default theme is used, without a persona. --- * The default toolbar layout is used.
* The Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compiler is disabled. --- * Hardware acceleration is disabled.

-- Safe Mode has no effect on the following --
* The status of plugins is not affected.
* Custom preferences are not affected.

This is the link to the main KB article for Safe-Mode ... but, use the above info 1st...
Safe Mode - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

If that doesn't show any improvement... try a new profile... and use it as-is.
Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
And,.... DON'T TOUCH THAT "Choose Folder..." BUTTON! ... unless you fully know all about it.

Also, do you have any crash reports that you can post here... just the links... not the whole report.
As you can see she's (The CAT) always alert and on the prowl for Meoware !!

URL?

Do you mean, GB?

> WOW64; rv:54.0

Might work a little better, longer before crashing or similar, if you used the 64-bit version of FF.
(I'd also say you're due for an update to FF 55 [backup first], but better to WAIT, for FF 55.0.2 to be released.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.
