Yesterday and today, a few seconds after opening computer and FF and Yahoo home page, a new page appeared (without me clicking on anything) that advised on critical update for FF!! The address bar showed this:
https://petifsony.org/7892514653010/b17 ... 18080.html
and there was a box in a red field with a button to click to go to their "help"
I did not click it.
Closed FF.
Is this a widespread problem fixable by Mozilla or by Yahoo? Or something bad on my machine??

You mean the fake urgent Firefox update page?
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/i-found-fake-firefox-update

This has been poping up for just over a year now especially more so on Yahoo related pages it seems. The Ads that triggers this only targets Firefox users on Windows and not Mac OSX or Linux and is Not due to malware/adware on your PC. Not sure if they still do but the fake update scammers would basically use disposable sites for only a day or so before moving to another so blocking them is useless as a result. They have been doing a very similar fake update page for Chrome users on Windows also.
