Annoying password window.[Mac.]
In Firefox preferences, I have checked "Remember logins for sites". Why then does a window constantly pop up asking me if I want Firefox to remember a password? I already have that turned on and am sick and tired of that little window. Any way to stop it from appearing?

Hi !
Make sure that you're not in permanent Private Browsing Mode :
3=bar menu => Options => Privacy => click the little arrow under 'History' and choose : 'Use custom settings for history'
UNcheck : 'Always use private browsing mode'.

Hi again yankeepoodle !
Your settings in Privacy look just fine (well done !)
Question : Does this happen on all websites that require login, or on one specific site only ?
Some websites might purposely make sure that you cannot use autofill, this is usually for security reasons or anti-spam measures.
You could also check these preferences in about:config :
'signon.rememberSignons' (without the quotation marks)
and
'signon.autofillForms' (without the quotation marks)
their values should be set to 'true'

Re: annoying password window
Thanks Dan. It does not happen on all sites, but it happens on a lot of them, every time I use them. For example - when I log into my bank account site. I just don't understand why if it's already set to remember, why it keeps asking me. I guess I have to click on "remember" and then it will stop asking? Some sites I do not want it to remember (yet the setting is turned on and it doesn't do its job). Just frustrating. Where is about:config, in Terminal?

Re: annoying password window
Type in the address bar : about:config - and then press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked).yankeepoodle wrote:Where is about:config, in Terminal?
And then you can type and look for those two preferences.
Note : You mention this happening on e.g. your bank's site : that could very well be their choice
(security reasons).

Thanks! Yes both of those are set to "true". So no one else is having this problem? I guess I'll start clicking on "remember".

Would you consider using the Password Manager ?

Re: Annoying password window.[Mac.]
I believe this is just a matter of misunderstanding. The Password Manager is what yankeepoodle referred to in the initial post:
The issue is that with that active, Firefox will ask, each time you enter user name and password information on a site you haven't visited before, whether you want to save that information. It doesn't automatically save the information without user authorization. That's a security feature. Note that you shouldn't see that dialogue when you next visit the same site(s)."Remember logins for sites"

3-bar menu => Options => Security => under 'Logins': 'Remember logins for sites'.

.
FYI - For those sites you don't want to save and/or don't want to be asked, go to
Preferences > Security
Under Login click on the exceptions button on the right. A new popup will open where you can enter the URLs of sites you don't want to be asked to save logins.

That article is helpful. So if I shut it off under options, that window won't come up anymore. I didn't realize it was called "password manager". This forum is great! Appreciate all the helpful replies!
