Upgrading from Firefox 52.3.0 ESR to Firefox 55

Post by rigsby999 »

If this is addressed somewhere please point me in the right direction.

I'm currently running FF 52.3.0 ESR. If I wish to upgrade to v55, I presume I uninstall the ESR version then download/install v55. This will (I'm guessing) lose all my addons & I will have a clean copy of FF v55.

Is there any way to do the upgrade leaving everything intact ??

No, you'll lose some of your add-ons and a lot of your interface after 56. I'm using ESR to hold onto my add-ons and UI longer, through mid-2018. ESR will update till then on its own track.

OK. Thanks. That's what I thought, just needed confirmation. Think I'll stick with the ESR for now then.

Waterfox looks like it's about to save our bacon by offering full support for legacy extensions beyond Firefox 57 according to this ghacks.net article. But the Windows version isn't available just yet according the download link. As I understand it they're still ironing out the code in preparation for updating existing installations automatically.

Thanks Reflective. Haven't heard of Waterfox. I'll keep my eye on that.

I wonder if Mz still considers Fx to be open-source. Closing more by the minute.

(Ghacks wasn't too clear to me.)

Is that feasible?
Or are they going (or are they using) some sort of (52 based) ESR route?
