Sick of it - latest ff extension restriction

Post by delicacy1 »

i get this for addons installed from desktop, or tweaked:

"this add-on could not be installed because it has not been verified"

Besides using firefox esr which is an less up to date version, does anyone have a fix
to get rid of the special castrating feature of recent firefox releases that disallow
xpi files to be downloaded from the desktop fo tweaked ones & even to disable them
when they're tweaked after installation in the archive found in extensions folder ?

I'm running ff 55.0.2

& seting to false all references containing the string "xpinstall" in about:config
or installing checkcompatibility2 didn't help..

they're disabled when i install signed addons & then tweak them in the extensions folde.
even if i remove the folder mf inf or domething like that from the xpi archive.

Why would that bother you, of all people?

The comments section isn't very encouraging, but this hack might be worth a try: http://winaero.com/blog/disable-add-on- ... and-above/

EDIT: Alternatively, Waterfox 55.0.1 (when released) might offer some hope: https://www.ghacks.net/2017/08/16/water ... cy-addons/

we should not encourage people to undermine firefox security with dubious hacks. and it needs special access to program files and in some cases it wont work people try to get access with tricks which are not revertable. i wont help for this, i have seen to much trashed system due this. in case of a firefox uninstall/reinstall the hack is gone.

(WOW! winaero worked. Thank you :-)! [I wonder why that isn't more widely known?] [Tested with FF 52esr.]
Oh, from the Russian site. Wonder if my memory isn't failing?)

Bah. A hack given on a Russian site, what could possibly go wrong?
