Í want to reset my FF v56.0.1 (under Win 7) to an initial state (without having to reinstall it).

AFAIK I have to use an initial prefs.js.

Where do I get this initial prefs.js?

Is there another way to reset FF v56.0.1?

Program & Profile are different & separate.

Assuming the FF program is unchanged since you've installed it, there is nothing to do on that end.

If you want a "fresh" Profile, simply create a new Profile & use it.
(A new Profile will carry nothing over from any existing Profiles.)

If all you want is a "fresh" prefs.js, exit FF, & delete prefs.js.
(If you happen to have a user.js, may want to nix that too.)
A new prefs.js (but not user.js) will be created when you start FF.

(Backup first. Instead of outright delete, a rename can't hurt.)

firefox creates it from scratch, not sure what you expect. but resetting includes more:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/re ... d-settings

it has reason why this procedure is recommended.
working on prefs without knowledge is pointless.

Help > Troubleshooting Information = upper-right corner - aka about:support in the Location Bar
Give Firefox a tune up - Refresh Firefox ...

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/re ... d-settings

That feature only appears if the Default Profile is being used. With "Remote" Profiles and non-Default Profiles that option won't appear there.

.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.
