Savetotext addon

Post by robbyx »

This seems a very useful addon but it saves the date in the name to the end. All my files are saved with the date at the start of the name. How do i find where the config files are saved for this addon?

I can't find a Save to Text add-on, only the Save Text to File add-on, which will do exactly what you want, according to what it says under 'About this extension'.

See : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... t-to-file/

But : not a sign of this being migrated to Webextensions ......

I guess the extension you're using is the one Happy112 identified. According to the home page on github right clicking a a selected area on site somewhere produces the option: "Save Text to File".

According to the extension page on AMO which Happy linked to, files are saved to the user's home directory.

Regardless of the format used though, there's nothing to prevent you from renaming the files you create. I don't know the command to use in Ubuntu I'm afraid to rename a file.

Save Text to File does not have an option to do what the OP wants: put the date at the beginning of the _file name_. There is an option for adding date to the file name, but the default behavior is to put is at the end of the name and there is no option to do otherwise.

To answer the OP's question, the config files are somewhere inside the <your FF profile folder>\extensions\HighlightedTextToFile@bobbyrne01.org.xpi file. You'll need something like 7-zip to open, edit, and save it.

All that being said, as others have noted a) you can rename the files, which presumably is what you've been doing, and b) that extension very well may not be ported over to WebExtension format. Which would be too bad; I use it too.

since firefox 57 firefox is no longer allowed to open/save files*. remember.

#edit: in background - only on demand (like import/export)

I guess the extension could send the selected text to a script, then the script could save the text to a file.
