Re: Firefox 57 Slow and Laggy

Post by goatpimp »

I have a 6 years old laptop with 3 gigs of ram and some intel dual core cpu, I used FF 56 because it was a lot faster and easier on RAM than chrome.

Now with FF 57 the performance is worse. First of all the Youtube video performance is choppy constantly. Secondly page loading seems to hang for 5 seconds not doing anything...

Uninstalled it, deleted the config folder, where the profiles folder is. Nothing changed after a clean install. FF 56 was great, FF 57 what happened there guys?

I guess I have to use chrome until this is fixed.

My advice in these kind of circumstances where a new profile has failed to resolve the problem would be to download a fresh copy of FF57 from here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ The 64-bit version is located in the first column on the left now whereas it used to be in the second column.

Then uninstall the current installation via Programs and Features in Windows. Your personal data including bookmarks, extensions etc., will remain untouched since these are located in a different directory to the installation.

However, I'd advise you to make a backup of your bookmarks just in case. Hit CTRL+SHIFT+B to open the library and then use the option to "Export bookmarks as HTML" on the "Import and Backup" menu at the top.

I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling after downloading from the link, results are still the same. Very frustrating

Yes, it is true v 57 supposedly double the speed and 30% less memory usage is just the opposite. I have done everything reinstalled and uninstalled and updated my computers BIOS and GPU drivers and everything in between and nothing works. Chrome is faster and I'm posting this using Chrome. There seems to be a lot of bugs in this rollout and v 57 to me is unusable.

Hi,
I do have the same issues. F57 is laggy, when using mouse or keyboard. Not permanently, but too often. Such as F57, for me, is not usable.
It looks like, that reinstalling, deleting profiles and so on helps a bit. But... still not usable.

I have WIN10Pro, and Windows defender installed. Disabling Aadd ons does not help.

Someplace, I forget where now, I saw the recommendation to disable Game Mode in Windows 10 and that would improve Firefox. I don't know if that would help you, but I think it would be worth a try:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-enab ... ors-update

Please let us know the results of that test, or if Game Mode was already off.

Thank you!

Thanks for your advices. Nothing helped so far. I'am waiting for a future release, may be FF runs fluently then.
I really would like to use FF in the future, because FF57 is fast and customizable, it is just nice....

I am in the same boat. Will continue using FF56 and wait for the next release in the hope that this will work better

I still have the same problem after trying the suggested solutions. For me it is machine specific because my Asus net book is working fine with basically the same OS and software. I have looked at some other help sites and the same complaint is apparent.

for more speed, try:

-diable Snippets (new tab)
-disable Notifications
-disable some connections for "Homecalling" Mozilla (telemetry data, and disable pings via about:config)
-disable accessibility-services: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ac ... y-services

delete the folder storage in your profile (will be create new, when restart, but empty)

This issue is not to do with speed of the browser but more to do with the delay in the mouse & keyboard commands
