FF57: Blank home page ignored

Post by Asperamanca »

When I opened a new tab, I used to have a blank page. Now I get some weird start page with search bar etc.
In my settings, Homepage is set to "about:blank"
I have checked about:config. Unfortunately, the tree "browser.newtabpage" is undocumented in the knowledge base (http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries), so I don't know which settings might have an effect.

@ Asperamanca...
That KB link does not function.
Try this one > http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries

(Always choose the "Custom" Install.)

Thanks for that. A bit confusing...what purpose does have homepage setting now?

Must have been a copy and paste glitch. But the page you link doesn't contain information on browser.newtab either.

You could go into about:config and type newtab page and look at the items
You can place about:blank in stead of any url or about:newtab item.
There are also items which contain column and row numbers which can be modified to a null.
If you want to stop the feed change Browser.newtabpage.activity.stream enabled to false
Most of the boolean items are no issue if they don't work just click them back but watch out for the sting and intenger, some will revert if hitting reset some won't
Make sure you keep notes on paper to fix if they don't.

AFAIK, it is not possible to change the new tab page to about:blank without an extension.

New Tab Override
http://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon ... -override/

The following preference was removed in Firefox 41.

* browser.newtabpage.url

If you set the following preferences to false, then that still doesn't change the new tab page to about:blank.

* browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled
* browser.newtabpage.enabled

I had just installed 57 and assumed the same items in about:config would still be there. Might not need an add-on yet.
They really overdid the newtabpage items in about:config and had a bunch of really unwanted urls in one of the item listings.
I just did a little house cleaning and once done, when I hit new tab from /File/newtab, I get the blank page and a small star in the right hand corner which provides a menu for changing newtab page parameters and to a blank page on start. I also disabled or made false most of the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.xxxxx items which helps. But not for everyone.
