Re: How could I find / open the folder containing a a specia
Bookmarks are stored in a single file named places.sqlite, along with browsing history, and downloads history.
No "folders" per se, like with IE / Windows Favorites; just 'tags' or 'artifacts' in the sqlite file that groups them together in the UI display.
Been years since I viewed an sqlite file via an SQLite browser such as this: http://sqlitebrowser.org/
There's also a Firefox extension for that: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... e-manager/
And others:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlitemanager/
http://www.sqlabs.com/sqlitemanager.php

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

Re: How could I find / open the folder containing a a specia
Thank you very much, for the links also.
Sorry, I meant anything what can be used in Firefox (or may be outside of it with) with a "normal" GUI, showing folders and booksmarks the way they were shown on the screenshot above.
I do not have any idea of such databases:

When I search for / find a bookmark (with the search) in Firefox I want to show the folder containing it to e.g. show bookmarks of the same category.
Many thanks again

There's Show Parent Folder, which works on 52. I've had it many years. It works in Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks at the end of the row.

Yes, thank you, I have used it as well, but it does not seem to work for Firefox ESR 52 (https://i.imgur.com/xkR3spx.png). It just disappeared in the add on list, is not available anymore more in this Firefox obviously.

I'm using it in 52ESR, but MultiRow Bookmarks has stopped working. Maybe we can swap

Re: How could I find / open the folder containing a a specia
one workaround is to export your bookmarks to an html file, then use find on page to locate the bookmark, scroll to find its folder.
bookmarks>show all bookmarks>import and backup>export bookmarks to html
if you want, you can bookmark this file for easier access and open in firefox.
you can use about:config to automatically export your bookmarks to html, i believe it updates the file each time firefox is closed. it will prevent having to go through the export process manually to keep the file up to date.
copy and paste this about:config setting in the location bar and enter, double click the entry to set to true.

Code: Select all
about:config?filter=browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML

What kind of god would allow that?

Dirki
I currently use the Show Parent folder in here (ESR) but I don't have the code for you... so, I was interested if somebody 'out there' had it... I found this site (I believe in German) and I used Google translate to read it... on the second page somebody posted the link to the extension.
So, use it but remember, it's out there in wonder, wonder land and I can't guarantee anything about it... use a test profile? ... maybe..
Here is the original site.
https://www.camp-firefox.de/forum/viewt ... p?t=120608
Use the translator on it.
And then on page to some users point out where to get Go Parent folder and Show Parent folder...
Good luck,.

The one I have came originally from AMO. Now it links to a Japanese page:

Re: How could I find / open the folder containing a a specia
A drawback seems to be that the search is very limited, only one item at a time is shown instead all of the items.then use find on page to locate the bookmark
That does not seem to work with me.you can use about:config to automatically export your bookmarks to html, i believe it updates the file each time firefox is closed.
Thank you, yes I did it but I cannot find a file being exported / updated.copy and paste this about:config setting in the location bar and enter, double click the entry to set to true.
Many thanks, dfoulkes.
Here are the download links:
https://www.camp-firefox.de/forum/viewt ... 5#p1036994
https://www.camp-firefox.de/forum/viewt ... 5#p1037006
But they do not seem to work for this Firefox: https://i.imgur.com/nKNTdCp.png
They obviously are installed, but the item is not shown in the context menu in the bookmarks window:

Very sorry, if I had knewn that...Sorry, swap? What?
Just a joke.

HTML file is placed in your profile, is replaced every time you closed FF.
