Mostly black screen. [Solved.]

Post by skeeter5 »

Hi Folks,
I have been a user of FF for several years and now this new version is driving me bunkers.

I have Win 10 Pro, using FF ver. 58.0.1. 1 st. can not find anything to help me from FireFox.
The info never addresses what my problem (s) are.

2 nd. I have a black screen with sound. I have searched much but have not found
any instructions that comment on how to correct this problem. You get a this might
help. The comments are about profiles, add-ons, use Flash player, use adobe, use
Foxreader, which is what is to make the videos "work". Doesn't happen or hasn't
happened

3 rd. Can some one please tell me what to do and how to do it, that will make/let
FireFox show videos.

Until yesterday I would have FF refresh my program, now this does not work. So if
any of you from/on this forum can contact FF, and let them know this needs fixing,
please do so.

So will some one leave me so good instructions. You will make an old man happy.

Thank you, ](*,)

As a first check, try to replicate your problem in safe mode.

Hello Mr. Smith,

Thanks very much for your reply.

I was not aware of a safe mode condition for/in FF. I thought when I would see
a reference to safe mode I was thinking Windows/computer.

I did as you suggested and used the menu help and clicked restart with Add-ons
disabled. I do have a working FF video screen. So a big thanks for your answer.

Now do I need to adjust/change anything? Do I leave in safe mode or will I have to
put in safe mode to view videos should I need to shut it off?

Safe mode helps us to see that with certain things turned off, Firefox behaves as we would expect on your computer.

Safe mode turns off your extensions and disables some standard features that may be causing the problem. For the full list, you can review the entirety of the article I linked above.

First, if you are still in Firefox's safe mode, exit the browser and restart how you would normally start. Then, open the Options and look at the General settings. Near the bottom, there is a section for Performance. Find the checkbox for "Use recommended performance settings" and turn it off. Some new checkboxes should appear. Uncheck the one for "Use hardware acceleration when available". Close and restart Firefox how you normally would. See if the problem continues with hardware acceleration disabled. Some people report that they have to restart their computer to fully disable hardware acceleration.

Hello again Mr.Smith,

All seems okay. I am in regular mode and "use hardware accelerations
when available" in unchecked.

I do appreciate you telling me how to fix/adjust FF where
it would work properly.

Thank you very much.

You may show this thread as solved,

Thank you,
