This is an old topic that I looked up years ago.
It turned out that it was really easy.
Set the home page as :"about:newtab" and Walla when Firefox starts it opens with all of my brilliantly thought out most used websites as tiles.
Until the new Firefox Quantum came out.
Now when I start FF I get this page full of advertising and I don't get my Tiles until I click the + for a new tab.
WTF?
Is there a new way to make the tiles start on first startup?
Please tell me there's a fix for this, and we are not just being force fed this advertising BS ?

Re: Set "New Tab" as start page 58.01
Enter about:config in the addressbar and search for the entry browser.newtabpage.enhanced and toggle that to false. Then set Homepage to use about:newtab.
Edit - about:config and browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled to false, as well.
