"Your connection is not secure" Ah, yes, it is

Post by pintree3 »

I keep on getting the "Your connection is not secure" message on page after page--legitimate popular pages like nba.com, or nhl.com etc. The thing is this problem only exists on Firefox. It does not exist on Cyberfox, Waterfox, CLIQZ, Chrome or Edge. Hence the problem is here, within Firefox and nowhere else.
This to know perhaps (though I will list some things the question remains why only here?):
My internet is indeed often slow (China)
This problem exists with or without a VPN,
Even though the certificate option exists and I allow it, it often goes on a loop getting me nowhere
I also have problem logging into Lastpass
Pages like IMDB.com do not load properly: mainly text

OS; Windows 10 Home version 1709, 64-bit
Firefox ver.: Quantum 58.0.2 (64-bit)
Antivirus: Bitdefender free edition
Thank you

If I left out anything please let me know. I would say this problem is about 3 to 6 months old.

Did you make sure the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer are correct?

Who is the the issuer of the certificate?

Do you see a certificate chain if you click the blue error text on the SSL error page in case you get SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER?

Besides having the wrong date/time on the system some antivirus clients can cause issues with secure connections with Firefox.

I don't see where https://www.nba.com is secure?
Though https://www.nhl.com should be.

So if nba is not secure, then that is expected.
http: nhl should by default roll over to https:/ & if that is not happening, then check as mentioned above.

Hi, I thank you all for your support.
Sorry for the late reply I'm quite busy but mainly its because this showed up in my spam folder so went unseen.
I will try your suggestions and let you know my results. BUT, if I may, please note that I said that the problem exists in Firefox and ONLY IN Firefox--the message is never seen on any other browser including other Mozilla browsers, as mentioned. It seems that some of the suggestions refer to a general reason as to why this message occurs.
As to the YouTube suggestion? In China, no YouTube--it's banned and going via VPN is often slow.
As to the question "nba.com secure?" Well, what I meant really is that I assume the certificate from such a site should be legit, since it is asking for a secure certificate that apparently isn't secure. So are you suggesting that the nba certificate isn't secure?
Nevertheless I will check things out and give you guys more precise details/answers. Thanks :-)

Ahh, how does one attach images here? There is no usual paperclip icon and the 'img' button above seems to just give me what you see here, "img " within square brackets, these words in brackets and nothing else.

Oh, about Bitdefender. It says, " bring up the main Bitdefender interface
click on Settings from the upper right toolbar
From Settings Overview choose Privacy Control"
There is no such thing, there is no "Privacy Control" option under my free version of bitdefender. MY choices are, Events, Quarantine, Exclusions, Protection, Account info and Hep & Support (And no neither Exclusions or Protection gives me Privacy Control or any real option)

HI about posting an image it says I must go to an image hosting site. This means I must sign up to such a site. So sorry, no, too much trouble and too much time. I know it would benefit me but I really do not have such time. Thanks nevertheless. :-)

This forum like many do not allow attachments due to database load and especially due to spam. New members first post has required post approval since March 2011 if I recall. We still get quite a bit of spam attempts each day since. There are plently of image hosts as mentioned that do not require an account. However some may require an account if you want to use img tags vs just linking to image.

Sorry for the long wait. Some image hosting sites you guys so nicely suggested, did not work for me (Again possibly due to me being in China)
OK here are the images:

You'll notice the 1st one, is odd enough because even Firefox itself, in updating itself said "Your connection is not secure". Imagine that it thinks it, itself, is also NOT secure.
Anyhow, I am surprised this problem is not common. I thought you'd all be having it as well.
