Bookmarks keep disapearing

My user has over 500 bookmarks on this browser, and they keep disappearing. I can restore them, but then when he reopens Firefox they are gone again.
I have restored them several times. This is a network domain system, and my user has a roaming profile.

What is a JSONLZ4 file... That is where the backup of his bookmarks live. If I could get into them perhaps I can covert them into a format which I could use to import them into another browser such as Chrome or Vivaldi.

If you make a change to some Pref, does that change persist after a restart?

Check the Profile folder & see if there might not be a number a set of incremented places.sqlite files in there (or similar)?

jsonlz4 is a compressed (by lz4) json file.
Mozilla's implementation (go figure) is non-standard, though there are decompressors out there that will work.
Though I'd think other browsers could read places.sqlite directly?
If not, you can manually save bookmarks as either html or json. (Manually exporting as json saves as json rather then jsonlz4.)

Changes in Preferences are persistent.I can find places.sqlite files, there is a title line and a few widely distributed notations, but nothing else. I have changed app compatibility down to Win 8 with no help.

(a problem with a different program on a different computer was reacting badly to a recent MS update ant this helped that issue)
