When I go to menu
Tools--->Addons---->Plugins
then there is currently an entry "Shockwave Flash".
Is this the same plugin as "Adobe Flash"?
Whats the difference of using a Flash.xpi AddOn (=NOT plugin) available from here
http://flashplay.no-ip.org/
vs. the official plugin?
Actually I would prefer to de-install the plugin and install the XPI
Is "Shockwave Flash" plugin = "Adobe Flash" Plugin?

Why? And what version of Firefox are you using?Actually I would prefer to de-install the plugin and install the XPI
And, yes, Shockwave Flash is just Adobe's Flash.

Re: Is "Shockwave Flash" plugin = "Adobe Flash" Plugin?
please do NOT install vital plugins from another page than author or vendor.
you are not aware of content, either signed or not.
if you want flash get it from adobe
btw current is 29.0.0.171 and any older is vulnerable.
always current
ie: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_ax.exe
firefox: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player.exe
chrome: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_ppapi.exe
it has auto update by default!
edit: eternal links and other

Shockwave Flash is the old name that the Flash Player from Adobe may be referred to in some places in Firefox like in about:plugins . https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
The PlayFlash extension is by a unofficial third-party and is Not from Adobe or Mozilla so use at your own risk and is old as the current Flash Player Plugin version from Adobe is 29.0.0.171 and not 29.0.0.140 or 29.0.0.113 https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/user/chAlx/
Note the word Addon or Add-ons is a general term (started during the Firefox 2.0 / 3.0 days) that groups together the separate Extensions, Plugins, Themes (complete and image), dictionaries, language packs, search engines plugins. https://addons.mozilla.org/faq

Re: Is "Shockwave Flash" plugin = "Adobe Flash" Plugin?
There are 3 types of repacked Flashplay/Playflash addons, each in 32bit and 64bit versions:
1. Flashplay: Fullscreen-patched Flash Player DLLs; package not signed. Comfy but disliked by most browsers.
2. Flashplay signed: Original Adobe DLLs; package signed by Mozilla autochecker at AMO.
3. Playflash: Original DLLs; package signed by Mozilla reviewers; hosted on AMO. Easiest to find and install.
All types are Mozilla XPI extensions installed as add-on and automagically deployed binary Flash plugin. That's why You see two records in Addon Manager: one for XPI with autoupdate (in Extensions) and another for Shockwave Flash itself (in Plugins).
Flashplays (1 and 2) are updated in 1-10 days after Adobe release (timeout to avoid most buggy releases).
Playflash (3) updated in 1-6 weeks after release due to Mozilla reviewers manual check (it's not that they are looking at the code all this time but for some reason files are enqueued for review for weeks).
At the moment all versions are 29.0.0.171.
All 3 types are trustworthy: look for reviews, user comments, Virustotal scans, file signatures (for unpatched) etc. You just get working Flash player plugin without system services, autorunners, self-configurators and so on. But (thanks to Mozilla) you can't use them with modern Firefox (v57 and newer) despite it do support "obsolete" Flash player plugin.
