100% disk usage

I only let CCleaner delete the internet cache, cookies, download history and last download location. IMHO that cannot do any damage. Moreover, I have to delete the cache when e.g. watching YouTube, otherwise the pc slows down because of that.

Since the FF Quantum (I think) I have always had 6 FF processes running. It might very well be that the sixth in the one image was further down for a moment and wasn't captured in the screenshot. And weren't the separate processes meant to make FF lighter? That's what I've been told.

I don't know what disk usage means, I've been asking the same question here. I just see that in the Task Manager and that is how people describe the 100% disk "problem" online. I don't know what disk I/O is but there still is something wrong between my disk and FF. I figured that the disk column means how much Windows is reading the programs/exe files on the hard disk. Maybe that is the same as your disk I/O, I don't know.

As for CleanMem: okay, this is way over my head, so don't shoot me but this is as far as I understand it. CleanMem does deal with disk space as it makes memory use system cache and not the page file on the hard disk making pcs faster when they struggle with RAM being used up a lot. I do hope I didn't say anything foolish here, lol. I thought about uninstalling it but I didn't see how that would be a cause, but I can try it.

"Extreme slowness"

You would think that would be accompanied with high CPU usage.
Some sites use "coin miners" that do use up your CPU.
That in & of itself may or may not make things "slow".

Actually, on that particular page, there is nothing even to "see" there.
But, it has a miner. It eats CPU.

Otherwise, who knows.
I would not doubt if some FF extensions contain miners, or similar.
Crap websites (tons of tracking links & such) or pages (videos, animated images & such) negatively affect things.

You have 8 GB RAM.
I would not think that to be an issue.
I would think there would be no reason for ClearMem.
I would think it installs a "driver", one that is likely disabled when you reboot your computer in Safe Mode?

That is good to know, therube. Thank you for that. The only thing is that these shots are stationary. 100% disk usage is not a problem as long as it goes down again within, say, a minute, I gathered. But on my laptop it doesn't go down and then the extreme slowness occurs, with sometimes FF crashing for not being able to load etc.

Your post reminds me: a few times I saw a yellow banner saying something about a web page slowing FF down. It's only there for a few seconds, so I'm not sure what that was. And is that a symptom of the slowness or a cause, or THE cause? The last time I saw it was on the YouTube page, but pages where it occurred vary (I think). Do we need to look into that?

I still don't have slowness on the laptop. Maybe the Windows Safe Mode did something?? For normally I would have had slowness already again. But the moment slowness occurs I will run FF in Safe Mode and I will uninstall CleanMem. Now it's no use to try things. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I now have run FF in Safe Mode but it was the same. Sometimes very fast, sometimes slow, sometimes superslow with Task Manager showing 100% disk usage.

I also ran FF normally but without extensions and the hardware accelaration and with the standard theme (which I think is the same as FF Safe Mode but to be on the safe side). Same.

Can we rule out FF settings as a cause now or do you still want me to try the new profile option? Trying to save myself time and energy.

I didn't actually see a crash for a while so I was stunned to see many crash reports in about:crashes, for today only already ten! I don't know how to get the latest crash report to you. The copied link didn't work. Can you tell me how? Edit: see next post.

For your information: I solved the issue with the help of another forum. It turned out that it didn't have anything to do with Firefox. There were two issues. First a few things were deleted (a few superfluous tasks and invalid menu items), after which the slowness and high disk usage seemed to have been solved already, and then a problem with COM+ Marshaler was solved using the Windows Repair All In One program. The laptop is superfast again all the time! Even on wifi!

So I didn't create a new profile. I re-installed Unchecky and checked the crash report and it had installed itself in the Accessibility Client again. Same on my desktop. Don't know why that happened but just to let you know. Re-installed it again but now I can't check it 'cause I haven't had any crash reports anymore. Yayyy!
