Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

not really... no time for that; I just use another browswer (got 6) for banking; I just upgraded from FF 55; this was not happening

Create a new Profile for Quantum to get rid of remnants. Then copy places and other stuff from old to new.

You have a problem, take time to ask for help, then don't want to do troubleshooting based off of no time? Trying Firefox Safe Mode would have taken about as much time as it took for you to make your post stating you had no time to try it.
