Fox News et al live streaming problems

Post by petergo »

hi there

I am using FF version 52.3.0 ESR, and win 10

I have internet service 100Mb download

When I try to watch live streaming news programs using FF, the video plays for about 15 mins then starts buffering or stopping.
Only remedy so far is to close the window and restart it, which does not always resolve the issue

I looked thru 'options', and 'advanced' and found an item "use hardware acceleration where available" and I just checked that.

Should that make a difference?
Is there anything else I can do please?

kindest thanks, cheers

52.3.
At the least you should be using 52.9.

URL to the video.

I'd test in a new, clean Profile.
Open FF & load your video.
Fire 750, bring back 250.

I hope that you backed up your profile before upgrading to version 60... I believe that is the first version level for the Quantum format... and would be surprised that many of your extensions would still operate.

I use an older laptop with Win7 prof... and I have issues when I watch any high-def vids... drivers are up to date... I just think that my older vid card can't handle stuff...
As you can see she's (The CAT) always alert and on the prowl for Meoware !!

hi again

here is the url http://www.livenewson.com/american/fox- ... annel.html

I still cant watch anything as I get this error
"Cannot load M3U8 cross domain access denied"

I used my friend google to search for a solution, and best I could find was that it related to addblock.
However, I have no add block extensions enable or installed.

Kindly ask for a solution please
thnx

FWIW I see the same error msg about M3U8 , however it works in Chrome even with uBlock enabled. Not sure what Firefox is not liking.

I cleared all cookies and data for that site, still no joy.
Turned 'off ' tracking protection and the 'ads' play not the main video...

EDIT: Edge gives the M3U8 errors, IE11 gives an invalid/expired certificate error...

I'm the site has issues...

Same here, works in Chrome, not in Firefox.

Good News: I was playing with my various add-ons including NoScript and uBlock origin and cookies and it worked on FF.

Bad News: I can't reproduce what I did.

I am able to watch the live stream on

http://video.foxnews.com/v/561461598000 ... watch-live

I suspect that the issue may have something to do with trying to load the JW Player which is required for the stream on http://www.livenewson.com, just a guess.

I went directly to a number of the sites shown on http://www.livenewson.com, did not use their link, and had no problems.

I believe that the issue is with the livenewson site and the fact that they pull in the JW Player from some site that FF and Edge do not trust. This view is strengthened by

g'day Robert

what a crappy day!

firstly, thank you for the link, and that it worked great for 15 minutes, then I guess one has to pay a subscription.

I then went to http://www.livenewson.com/ and tried that, and selected Fox, and can you believe this I got the error again "cannot load M3U8 etc "

As I do not reside in the great US of A, maybe that is an issue, although that would not explain why it has worked for years, except for the annoying stopping and buffering constantly.

May I kindly ask if you can suggest anything else please?

thanks m8, cheers

Yes I note you are in P...... I do not know what the content restrictions are for news sites between countries but I do know they exist. Possably that site uses some tunneling technique to hide a user's location.

The only thing I can suggest is to use Chrome for that site since lasardo said it worked. If the site is mis-configured in any of many possible ways there is not much you can do.

No problem on 60.2.1esr/62.0.2/63.0b10/64.0a1/Windows10, 62.0/LinuxMint19 even with Tracking Protection(=always) and uBlock Origin(default+some additional filters).
Getting m3u8(e.g. https://1329918864.rsc.cdn77.org/ls-54548-1/index.m3u8) have done normally. (fetching mp2t as well)
Streaming plays fine.

...a few hours later...

BTW, just now, I'm seeing CNN at fox-news-channel. Is this site reliable?

...several hours later...

I could get "Cannot load m3u8: Crossdomain access denied" finally.
However, afaict, it is just a network error, simply GET(https) failed for security reason as SEC_ERROR_REVOKED_CERTIFICATE. (https://1686983180.rsc.cdn77.org/ls-54548-2-backup/index.m3u8) (and this is not a persisted error of course)
So possibly you could take a solution for SEC_ERROR_REVOKED_CERTIFICATE issue. (disable 'Query OCSP responder...' or such)

Not knowing other cases/situations though. It is very hard to reproduce.

...and now.
No further informaion.
