Since Quantum Version 62 Installed, Browser is Slow, Lagging

Post by debodun »

My system is using Windows 7 - 64 bit with SP1 as the OS, with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1.86 GHz and a 3 GB RAM.

The last few releases, especially the 62 versions have caused numerous problems, especially on Facebook and sites using Flash Player. After visiting these pages, the browser shows a definite slowdown, freezing, typing lag and blank pages. Sometimes closing the browser and re-starting helps for a while. I don't have any extensions and my plug-ins consist of Shockwave Flash 31.0 r0 and Widevine Content Decryption Module. Any idea what's going on?

Most websites do not need Flash anymore, they can play video and interactive content with HTML5 instead. Try uninstalling Flash. Many websites are overloaded with ads and do not work well if you do not have an adblocker like Ublock Origin. So, after you try the next step you may want to install Ublock Origin.
Next step - quick fix to clean up a Firefox install is to run a Firefox refresh. Since you have no extensions you should not lose much, details are here:

After it is done (do not interrupt the process if it is slow), consider adding Ublock Origin.

Please don't recommend the Refresh functionality. It does nothing that creating a new profile doesn't due but can be very confusing to users who don't realize that their old data is still accessible to them on the hard drive. Creating a new profile allows the user to switch back to the old profile, with all of the data they expect to find, if the new profile doesn't resolve whatever problem they have been experiencing.

Sometimes an anti-virus or firewall utility will not properly recognize a new update as the same application you were using previously. In such cases, the result can be significant performance issues.
